Very good mower
We bought this last year and were very impressed with it. We made a mistake last winter and forgot to add gas-Stor or similar product to the gas. We drained out the old gas, added new Premium with additive and it started without a problem.

So close, but no cigar
I tried this guy out three times, in hopes it needed to be broken in, but each time I used it, I had to back up each and every time to get a row mowed fully.
It wouldn't fully cut the grass because the self-propeller was pushing much of it back down just before the blade went to cut it. Even if I turned around and went over it again, it didn't make a difference. I had to back up to cut all of the grass in the row.
Too bad because the engine was powerful, quiet, easy to start, the self-propeller made it easy to maneuver, as did the larger back tires.
It's possible it wasn't cutting everything because I currently have a mixture of crab grass, dandelion and clover weeds in my lawns. However I feel going over it twice forwards at the proper pace with a $450 plus tax mower should work.

Best mower I've ever owned
This mower replaced my 10 year old Sears equipment which bogged down in longer grass.. Smooth operation, easy start, cuts through wet grass easily. Drive wheels, though, only go fast - no adjustment for speed. Drive handle too has a bit too much travel to engage but overall, I'd give it four stars out of five. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to my friends.

Get what you pay for
Fantastic mower. I've only owned it for about a month, but I'm very happy I spent the extra money for a decent lawn mower. It cuts through long, wet grass easily, and the mulching function means no need to bag or rake. The self-propulsion is great, though it can be a workout to keep up with the mower!

My neighbour is jealous
Just replaced my 20 year old lawnmower. I love this machine, and so does my neighbour! The Honda engine has a very smooth sound and feel when it's running. Starts first pull, cuts great, self propel helps on hills,. No concerns or complaints. Highly recommended.

great for 1st season, fails after that
great mower 1st season, easy start, although the handle is a little low for a tall person. Self-propelled function great as it moves fast enough to make doing a large area less of a chore. Problems arose getting it to start towards end of 2nd and now 3rd season requiring $ for tune-ups and cleaning and much aggravation.

Quiet and Powerful
I purchased this unit at the beginning of this Spring (2011) to replace my 15yr old Sears mower. This unit is light which makes it very easy to push and maneuver (even w/self-propel disengaged). I really liked the fact that it has a Honda engine and what a beauty of an engine it is! The engine starts 1st pull, it's very quiet for a gas engine and don't let the smallish 160cc size fool you - it has 7 lb/ft of torque and IT...IS...Powerful. This lawnmower easily cuts through areas of my lawn that when damp and thicker than usual, gave my Sears (with a 6.5HP Tecumseh engine) trouble. This lawnmower must be a low-emissions unit as well because you really don't smell the exhaust very strongly from it and it is good on fuel - for a lawnmower!
The wheel height is also very easy to set on this mower.
The only reason I gave this 4 stars is because of the speed control for the self-propelled drive - it's finicky to get it to be anything but either full "on" or full "off". It can be done, it's just tricky! It's top-speed is also a very brisk walk - not that that's a bad thing!
Overall - great lawnmower that I hope to use for many years.

A Good Mower
Troy-Bilt has been around for over 70 years, so you can bet they know what they are doing. With the oversized rear wheel, this mower is very easy to turn, and navigate hills with. The oversize rear wheels also prevent the bag from dragging on the ground and getting ripped in three months. Speaking of the bag, it is light and easy to empty, not bulky and awkward like some of the other bags. The mower itself glides easily and the handle bar fits comfortable in your hands. The motor is a Honda, and in my experience Honda makes the most reliable motors in the world. With it's adjustable height positions and it's 21" cutting path, this mower is ideal for medium sized lawns like mine. Set-up and assembly was straight forward and easy, and took about 10 minutes to do. Although I have only had this mower for the past 6 months, I am very pleased with it's power and performance and am looking forward to years of great service from it.
