Updated review 2+ years later
In 2010, I gave this futon a 5 * rating after owning it for only a week. It sure looks good new, however the good feeling doesn’t last long. We use it as a spare couch / guests bed during family gatherings. First of all, the hooks meant to hold the mattress in place are absolutely useless as they don’t stay in place. It also doesn’t take a lot of usage for the mattress to become flat and hard. I purchased a double size, 1 ½” inch visco foam topper to insert into the cover to make it only just bearable to sit on it. Sadly, I suggest looking elsewhere for a better quality futon.

Good, but needs improvement
I had to make straps to sew onto the cover so it would stay upright on the couch.

Comfortable purchase
We bought this futon on the weekend and set it up. Setting it up was as we expected , straight forward but last an hour or so...
However , its very comfortable to sleep on and fits an adult, worth purchasing...very pleased

Nice futon
I purchased my futon not quite 3 months ago. It has been slept on a few times, with reports of it being pretty comfortable for a futon (I've never slept on it myself). I like the looks of it: it doesn't look like your typical cheap futon.
The clips that are supposed to keep the mattress from sliding off don't do anything. In fact after only a month both of mine ended up so bent out of shape there was no hope of them ever being useful.
If you plan on using this as a regular sofa be warned it will very quickly end up with sunken spots in the mattress, which make it very uncomfortable, and hard. What starts as a nice cushy pad ends up flat and uncomfortable.
I got mine on sale and generally have been happy with it. But there would be no way I'd suggest paying full price for this item. Overall it looks nice, but if you're going to charge $300 for something it shouldn't start to deteriorate after only 2.5 months.

If you plan on using this on a regular basis don't
I've been using this futon as my bed, and couch as I live in a bachelor, and it's been less than a year and the thing has completely collapsed. It's not very sturdy, and the main folding mechanism is completely bent out out shape. See pic.

Looks can be decieving
Looks nice in the pictures, buyer beware, the cushy looking matress. it only took a couple of months for the matress to become flat as a pancake. the hooks you see holding the matress don't do a thing to keep the matress in an upright position. I bought this on sale for 189.00 and that still is way overpriced for what you are getting.

Absolute Garbage!
Save your money and pass on this. I bought this about 4 months ago and was VERY PLEASED WHEN I FIRST GOT IT. Now it is practically falling apart, it squeaks with every movement, and the "matress" which is nothing more that a large pillow is like a pancake and unbelievebably UNCOMFORTABLE.
Hauling it to the dump today as I woudn't even Give it away to my worst enemy. Terrible.

very nice looking, need 2 to assemble!
We assembled this in about 45 minutes, both slightly disabled (husband's broken thumbs never healed, my nerve damage in hands make screws & nuts fiddly). Came with two sets of instructions and of course I followed the wrong ones - add the newspaper racks FIRST!
Very comfortable even for a tall man to sit on, decent mattress for guest use, buying an additional washable cover as we shipped it to Grenada in the Caribbean to use and the cover does not look very robust for frequent washing, but that is probably not typical for most Canadian usage!

Not worth the money
I purchased this futon for 199, on sale. The set up was a job in itself, but nothing that someone with good hands can't put together.
It's been about 2 years now, and I have had to stuff more pieces of foam into the futon. The padding that comes with the futon is cheap and started to compress a lot after about 3 months of use.
When the futon is put into its laying down position, there is a lot of play in the middle folding part, which will make you roll into the middle (very uncomfortable)
At the regular price of 299, I would really suggest paying a bit more for a futon of higher quality.
Believe me, you will regret this product at its regular price, even on sale.
