Hyper sensitive This alarm is driving me nuts! Every time I shower it goes off. Evidently, it cannot tell steam from smoke. October 18, 2012

Excellent Review by former firefighter: I am a huge fan of photoelectric alarms. Their importance is not emphasized enough. They detect those fires that ionization alarms don't pick up as quickly. They detect smoldering fires (ie the cigarette you dropped on the couch or bed). Photoelectric models have a beam that when smoke crosses, trips the alarm. This particular model is good because of the test and hush features. This is the kind of alarm that will not go off when you step out of the shower or when you're cooking. It's so low maintenance you may even forget it's there. I have a photoelectric and an ionization alarm on each level of my home. I couldn't sleep at night knowing I wasn't fully protected.
