works sometimes
A recharge kit simply injects refrigerant into the system. It doesn't evacuate the system of any air that it has in it. This works if the refrigerant is just a bit too low for the compressor to engage but still not full of air. Its a cheap try and may or may not work.

Improper fit
This could be a one-time case, but the recharge hose doesn't fit properly. I started with an empty system, fit the hose onto the low-side port and charged the system. Once the system has a bit of pressure in it, I had to keep pushing the hose down onto the low-side port or else the refrigerant just stays in the hose. The Duracool hose I had before didn't have this problem.

It definitely works
This stuff definitely works as a R-134A replacement and is much cheaper than having a mechanic refill it for you. But if you have a leaking A/C system, this isn't going to miraculously fix it for you. If you have a leaking compressor nothing will fix it short of getting a new one. However, if your system is functioning properly this is an excellent replacement, even an upgrade over traditional freon. I've noticed that it blows significantly colder than what was previously installed in my 98 Buick LeSabre, and it's also very easy to do. Just make sure The quick-release valve is fully secured to the low-side port or you're just going to literally vent your money into the atmosphere. Also make sure that you fully loosen the screw cap because i vented a can by leaving it mostly screwed in. It tends to leak a bit around the screw piece, but you'll notice because it's so cold it forms ice almost instantly. Provided you get the whole can into the system, it's going to blow colder than you've ever experience before.

She's as cold as ice
Used this as a replacement refrigerant on a classic Camaro which used R12. Used the connection adaptor which was purchased separate from this kit. Attached the hose to the low pressure side connector (making sure of a good solid connection). Gave the can a bit of a shake and then added as much refrigerant as needed to the correct pressure as indicated on the gauge. Car is blowing cold 2 years after adding this. Wear protective eye wear and gloves-refrigerant is extremely cold. To add refrigerant, the motor is running (idle) and the AC is on. Be careful of any moving parts such as spinning drive belts/pulleys and hot engine.

An excellent temporary fix!!
Over time my AC system was blowing less cool air on very humid days. After testing my AC Compressor to make sure it was still functioning I knew this was my most cost effective option. As an avid DIY mechanic this was a very simple job for me of course double checking the correct procedure first. Followed the directions and minutes later my AC system was blowing cold air again! For me it only used about half a can so now I can re use the left overs next season as it seems to leak out over the winter. Very good purchase, totally satisfied.

Great purchase
Read the instructions first. They're not over the top but say everything you need. Recharging 2 vehicles was effortless and worked a treat. Took about 5 minutes for each vehicle.

Mass Confusion
I just bought red tek12 car ac recharge kit, after spending around $ 700.00 on two visits in last 4 years, at canadian Tire service centre. To say that i am upset would be under statement. Even as of last year my 2000 Honda Civic didnt blow cold air.
With this red tek kit 12, contraversy is something. I have to discharge old refrigerant first and then add this one.??? What is point bying it in first place.??And what about ac oil analyzer, where do you attach that.?? It is so frustrating, for i have rebuilt this Civic from scrap yard aka branded vehicle. Is there someone who could provide me with some answers.?? Thank you
